Participation in team and individual sports not only promotes a feeling of family and belonging, but it allows students to develop themselves physically and emotionally. Students gain strength and skills, as well as having the opportunity to develop leadership skills. They learn the art of good sportsmanship and fair play.

At Powell Middle School, the sports listed below are available to seventh and eighth-grade students. The selections marked with an * denote availability to sixth-grade students, as well:

  • Track

  • Football

  • Volleyball

  • Soccer

  • Cheerleading*

  • Basketball

  • Wrestling*

  • Swimming

  • Club Tennis

  • Cross Country*

Students in grades six, seven, and eight who play fall sports must have a physical examination prior to the first day of practice. You may pick up necessary paperwork from the middle school office or find it on our school website under the Athletics tab. Students must have their paperwork completed (including their physical dated May 1, 2025, or later) prior to their first practice. We do not allow students, who do not have this paperwork, to practice or play in games.
