TIME TO TEACH
Time to Teach is a comprehensive program designed to enhance the educational experience and maximize student engagement by reducing disruptions and creating respectful, focused, and cooperative learning environments. Key components of the program include:
1) Clear and consistent expectations and consequences for every school environment which help students understand boundaries and feel secure.
2) Respectful communication: Teachers use positive reinforcement and calm, respectful communication to encourage students to make good choices and to address misbehavior in a constructive manner. This ensures instructional time and learning opportunities are maximized throughout the day.
3) Self-discipline: Students will be guided to develop self-discipline, learning how to manage their own behavior and take responsibility for their actions. After learning and practicing the expectations, students who do not comply are given a verbal prompt so that learning may continue. If noncompliance continues, students are issued a Refocus form to stop the disruption to learning and give the student time to reflect and take responsibility for their behavior. This may be completed in the classroom or an adjacent classroom. Refocuses are simply a tool to prompt students to “stop and think” for low level disruptions in order to resume their learning as quickly as possible.
The Time to Teach program benefits our Westside learners and our classroom communities. There will be enhanced learning with fewer disruptions, your child will be better able to focus and participate actively in class. In addition, your child will be part of a classroom community that fosters mutual respect and cooperation. Finally, this program helps students develop important life skills, such as self-regulation and responsibility. Their learning behavior and academic growth will be unmatched. Go Westside Bears!
